Frequently asked questions...
What is psychotherapy and how can it help me?
Psychotherapy is a safe and confidential space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It can help you gain insight, develop coping strategies, and work through challenges such as anxiety, depression, stress, or relationship difficulties.
How long does therapy last?
The length of therapy varies depending on your needs and goals. Some people find a few sessions helpful, while others benefit from longer-term support. We can discuss a plan that suits you during your sessions.
Is therapy confidential?
Therapy is a confidential and supportive space where your privacy is respected and protected. The only limits to confidentiality occur when there is a risk of serious harm to you or others, suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elderly, or dependent person, or when records are legally required by a court. I follow BACP ethical guidelines to ensure your privacy and safety.
How do I know if therapy is working?
Progress can look different for everyone. Some clients notice changes quickly, while for others it takes time. We can regularly review your goals and discuss what’s working or what needs adjusting.
How do I know you are the right therapist for me?
It’s important that you feel comfortable and supported in therapy, so finding the right therapist is a personal decision. To help with this, I offer a free 30-minute initial session. This gives us the chance to talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, ask any questions you may have, and see if working together feels like the right fit. There’s no obligation—just an opportunity to take the first step in a safe and supportive way.
Can therapy help with work-related stress?
Yes. Many clients use therapy to manage stress, burnout, or workplace challenges. We can explore coping strategies, boundaries, and ways to improve wellbeing in your professional life.
What if I miss a session?
I ask for 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule, where possible. Of course, I understand that unexpected things can happen, and I will always do my best to be flexible if there are genuine emergencies or unforeseen circumstances.
What if I want to stop therapy?
You are in control of your therapy. If you feel ready to stop, we can discuss how to end sessions safely and plan strategies to maintain your progress.
